“What Are You Afraid Of” is a series of small paintings inspired by my memories and experiences. It abstractly puts across the idea of life as a journey through opposite worlds, coping with overwhelming emotions. Grief, love, sexuality, connection, control, freedom, acceptance, rejection are themes that are recurring throughout my work. There is both presence and absence, with a lot of longing. Trying to adapt, to adjust, to belong, in search for love, for peace, for home. 

“ما تخاف منه” هو سلسلة من اللوحات الصغيرة المستوحاة من ذكرياتي وخبراتي. العمل يطرح فكرة الحياة بشكل تجريدي كرحلة عبر عوالم متقابلة ، والتعامل مع المشاعر العارمة. الحزن والحب والجنس والاتصال والسيطرة والحرية والقبول والرفض هي مواضيع تتكرر في جميع أنحاء عملي. يوجد حضور وغياب ، مع الكثير من الشوق. محاولة التكيّف والانتماء والبحث عن الحب والسلام والوطن

“My inspiration comes from within. Places that I carry inside of me. Places that shape my identity. Familiar and unfamiliar. The familiar becomes unfamiliar, the unfamiliar becomes home, evoking my sense of wonder.” Says Layla
