Painter Sarah El Sawy considers herself a plastic artist and conceptual designer. She credits an incredible array of artists, from contemporary Egyptian masters Hassan Soliman and Adel El Sewy to past Expressionist and Art Nouveau innovators Gustav Klimt, Alfonse Mucha, and Edvard Munch as her greatest influences, a variety that perhaps underlines El Sawy’s incredible versatility as an artist. By weaving together such a diverse set of references, El Sawy creates her own space for her artistic voice to resonate loudly.
El Sawy is a graduate of the Faculty of Applied Arts' ornament department. She has participated in many group exhibitions and competitions in Egypt, including the Ministry of Culture's Youth Salon, El Sakia Culture wheel, the Goethe Institute, and Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Center. She represented Egypt in a collaboration workshop between Egypt and Germany, as well as another between Egypt and the USA.
