Contemporary artist Sally El Zeiny creates playful and joyous compositions that extol the virtues of vibrant colour and mixed media approaches. Bearing echoes of mid-century mod design, El Zeiny’s art nevertheless feels wholly fresh in its jolly look at the larger world.
Born in Cairo in 1973, El Zeiny is a lecturer at Helwan University's Faculty of Fine Arts in the Graphics Department. She holds a BA in Graphic Art (1997) as well as an MA and PhD in graphic design. Her art has been exhibited in over 61 group exhibitions in Egypt and abroad, including shows at the Alexandria Atelier, TAM.Gallery, and Al Hanager in Cairo; Imago Mundi and Pesaro in Italy; New York City; Romania; and Armenia. She was a jury member of El Sawy Culturewheel's Salon for Small Art Pieces in 2014 and is the recipient of over eight national art awards and certificates of merit, including the Grand Prize at the Fourth Siwa Painting Symposium. Her art has been acquired by the Egyptian High Council of Youth and Sport, the Ministry of Culture, the Bahrain Ministry of Cairo, and the Faculty of Fine Arts Museum in Cairo, in addition to private collections in Tunisia, France, and Spain.
