World-renowned painter Magdy Adawy (1945-2020) channeled the landscapes and cultures of Egypt into his atmospheric scenes tempered with subtle washes of color. Striking in their beauty, Awady’s compositions recall a sense of nostalgia while also conveying a universal appeal.
Born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1945, Adawy served as a Professor of Art Education at Ein Shams University of Cairo before becoming the Dean of Specific Education Faculty at Ein Shams University form 2000 to 2005. He has enjoyed numerous opportunities to showcase his work including at the Central Hall of the Ministry of Culture in Egypt (1968); Helwan University, Egypt (1975); Limerick University, Ireland (1991); the Main Gallery of Art at the Faculty of Art Education in Cairo (1994); and the Upper Arlington Municipal Center in Columbus, Ohio, USA (1996). He has also enjoyed two exhibitions at the Embassies of Egypt, one in London (1997) and the other in Washington, D.C. (1998). He has received several awards and counts many private clients in Egypt and other countries around the globe.
