Compelling in the way in which she has revived the modes of early twentieth-century Cubism, painter Shaimaa Samir offers viewers an enticing array of work filled with saturated, bold colours neatly separated into planes of colour. Surfaces seem to vanish as Samir pulls her audience into her web of experimentation.
Based in Cairo, Samir is a 2009 graduate of the Cairo Faculty of Applied Arts' Ornament department. She earned her MFA in 2016 and has participated in many group exhibitions and art competitions in Egypt. These showcases include the Ministry of Culture’s Youth Salon (in 2010, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017) in addition to El Sakia Culture Wheel, the Goethe Institute and Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Center. She has represented Egypt in a collaborative workshop between Egypt and Germany.
