Born in Egypt in 1967, Rania Khallaf graduated from the Faculty of Mass Communication with a specialization in journalism in 1990. She is a creative writer, a self-taught visual artist and an art critic with years of experience in cultural journalism at Al Ahram Weekly.
She participated in a number of significant exhibitions including 1st International Women’s Day Exhibition at the Opera House 2014, Egyptian Joy at the Russian Cultural Center in 2014, Sweet Things at the Greek Campus in 2015, Untitled group exhibition at the Austrian Cultural Center in 2015, among other exhibitions and has most recently held a solo exhibition.
Khallaf seeks to discuss existential issues including communication and separation within her body of work. She examines the distance and proximity in relationships between individuals, their pets and their interaction with their spaces. In her work, Rania expresses the feelings of loneliness and isolation from the world while examining the meaning of true connection.
Khallaf’s most recent body of work is also inspired by her own brief experience in creating comics, which began in the early nineties. She even uses her passion for journalism and photography to inspire her in her ever changing path through art.
