Nourhan Refaat Maayouf, born in 1990 in Cairo, Egypt, is a self-taught visual artist working primarily in digital photography, alongside video, illustration, and printmaking. Since beginning her artistic journey in 2010, she has explored various photographic forms before focusing on staged photography over the past five years.
Maayouf frequently incorporates installation and performance into her photographic practice, often favoring minimal setups using simple props and natural light—particularly in her intimate self-portraits, which remain central to her body of work. Her art delves into themes of domestic life and personal relationships, examining notions of communication, self-deception, objectification, and the emotional dynamics within family and intimate settings.
Deeply personal and reflective, her work draws inspiration from her lived experiences at home and her private connections, transforming the personal into poignant visual narratives.
