Using each photographic frame as if it is a vignette into a world all its own, artist Nour Kamel captures striking views of her modern city. Juxtaposing bold color with earthen tones, or new, shiny objects with the time-worn and decaying, Kamel offers a powerful commentary as to the state of contemporary humanity.
Born and raised in Cairo, Kamel developed a passion for photography during her teenage years. She started practicing street photography regularly when she moved to Europe to pursue her studies. Since moving back to Cairo in 2013, she has nurtured her passion for photography by practicing religiously and as often as she can, both using a mirror-less Fujifilm camera and her smartphone. Her biggest project to date portrays Cairo and is titled “City of Color | City of Chaos." It attempts to capture Cairo’s beauty in all its decay and colors, featuring sides of the city otherwise inaccessible to wider, international audiences.
