Leila Aguizy is a self-taught artist, born on June 29, 1979. Aguizy graduated from the Faculty of Arts (German Literature) in 2002. She describes herself as an art aficionado as well as a multi-disciplinary artist. At the age of 5, Aguizy started playing the piano, and did so on a pretty advanced level and is currently a professional classical piano teacher for both children and adults.
Aguizy believes that, like music, every color expresses a mood and believes that every situation has its color, or colors that best express it in all its simple complexity.
Aguizy has been painting since childhood and kept doing so throughout her life. In 2018, Aguizy came across the works of Gerhardt Richter, and with that encounter, she felt a transition within and an urge to share her experience and display her paintings. She believes that painting helps her meditate and heal from the fast-paced, and ever changing, daily life struggles.
In her work, Aguizy tries to capture the endless struggle of expressing her inner subconscious confusion, states of vulnerability and anger. It is endless and not tangible and therefore a dilemma which motivates her to try over again and again. The result is colors and shapes that come together; hinting at images and ideas that she can barely grasp, hidden in the shadows of lucid forms and helping her express a world inside of her. Leila also sometimes paints over her own paintings, calling it “recycling”.
