Independent visual artist Asmaa Bekheet has developed a body of work influenced by the plastic conventions of ancient Egyptian art. Borrowing the stylized forms and neat precision for which ancient Egyptian design is renowned, Bekheet aims for a similar juxtaposition in her own art while also infusing elements from the folk and Islamic art traditions as well.
Bekheet earned her BFA from Helwan University and subsequently completed her PhD in Fine Arts as well. Today, in addition to her creative practice, Bekheet serves as curator and training coordinator at the Museum of Fine Arts in Alexandria. She has participated in numerous local and international exhibitions as well as symposiums. Her artwork has entered collections in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Canada, Finland, and Italy.
