Abdelaziz Serag builds upon the ancient traditions of calligraphy and script to define a new mode of Egyptian identity that blends contemporary reference with age-old conventions. Fascinated by how forms and symbols derived from Arabic as well as ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic letters can be seen as their own art form, Serag updates these symbols in his expression of what Egypt symbolizes today. His work can be seen as steeped in history while also being infused with a pinch of Pop art through Serag’s use of bright colour and clean compositional formats.
Born in Alexandria in 1986, Serag earned a degree in engineering from the the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture Department In 2011. Following graduation, Serag began his professional practical as an architect and worked on projects across various sites in Alexandria , Dubai, and Jeddah. At the same time, Serag began exhibiting his experimental calligraphy projects across various galleries.
