Arts-Mart ‘s “Solos in Parallel; One Reality, Two Imaginations”, dedicated to the works of Mohamed Abou ElWafa and Mohamed El Damarawy.
Both artists launched their careers with Arts Mart as previous “Artists of Tomorrow” and have been favorited by art collectors since. In their latest body of work, the artists take on the role of observers or onlookers. Inspired by the same reality yet completely different in their approach, Damarawy & Abou ElWafa each portray their individual vision of Egyptian social everyday life and traditions.
Born in El Gharbeya in 1987, Mohamed Abou ElWafa graduated from Alexandria University’s faculty of Fine Arts in 2009. His work is an exploration of cultural and social themes. Combining realism, cubism and abstract expression, Abou ElWafa’s carefully constructed paintings capture the liveliness of Egyptian culture and spirit. A remarkable colorist, Abou ElWafa builds successful spatial and geometric relationships using beautiful contrasts and harmonious combinations.
Mohamed El Damarawy was born in Beheira in 1981. He graduated from Luxor’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 2003. Damarawy’s charming paintings carry and bring forth vibrant and joyous energy. In many of his new works Damarawy experiments with spontaneous expression, as if capturing a live moment. Often humorous, the characters in his paintings are lovable familiar stereotypes of Egyptian society. Bold lines, dense compositions, and fabulous details make this artist’s imagery unique and impactful.
