British-Egyptian artist Nazir Tanbouli breaks down the expectations of mixed media art in his widely varied body of work. From paper collage cut-outs akin to the late works of Matisse to fleshy figures that recall the work of Botero, Tanbouli’s art builds its own fascinating web of references to art’s past that come to life once more in his contemporary series.
Tanbouli studied Expressive Art at Alexandria University for five years. He went on to exhibit widely in Egypt and abroad and then embarked on a career as a mural painter. Tanbouli moved from Alexandria to the UK and completed an MA in Fine Art Printmaking at Camberwell College of Arts, London, focusing on screen printing and book art. He continues to work in drawing, painting, book art and murals.
