Interior architect and photographer Karim El Hayawan uses his wanderings of Cairo as a means to see out the elements of his prime visual interest and vocabulary. Particularly fascinating for El Hayawan is the analysis of the city's busy multi-layered cultural skin, from its recognized gems to abandoned architectural marvels. Throughout, El Hayawan records people who represent the genuine essence of what the city has to offer.
Born and raised in Cairo, El Hayawan found his passion in street photography and portraiture after having learned the technical fundamentals from a long-time Reuters hand, Alaa Abdel Naby, El Hayawan. His photos have been exhibited at multiple cultural venues in Egypt, Kuwait and South Africa. He is the winner of the 2013 Photo-marathon organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
