Hossna Hanafy uses her medium, whether canvas or paper, as a free space for questioning ideas about the role of authorities, religion, sex, and society in shaping identities. The distortion in her model's bodies results in portraits that can be seen as a reflection of their status and inner voices.
Born in Alexandria in 1987, Hanafy graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in her hometown and has since displayed her artwork in several exhibitions in Alexandria, Cairo and most recently at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London (2016). She is the recipient of the 2015 NBH International Youth Creativity Award from Bahrain.
